Winery

Chateau Giscours in Margaux has a long and rich history dating back to the fourteenth century and was listed as a third-growth winery in the 1855 classification. In terms of wine quality, Chateau Giscours is known for its stability, and it is one of the few wineries in Bordeaux listed wineries that still use hand-picking. Chateau Giscours is the winery’s grand wine/ first label with great delicacy and elegance, giving drinkers the touch of a prime wine from the Margaux region. The color and aroma of the wine are very attractive, and most of the RP scores are around 90 points, but the price is very approachable, which can be said to be the very first choice for great cost performance value among classified wineries.

Wine

The 2014 Giscours has come by leaps and bounds since tasted it twice in the barrel. It is clearly more sophisticated and complex than the du Tertre on the nose. For a start, there is more fruit concentration with red cherries, raspberry, and blackcurrant laced with cedar and graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, pure red cherry, and crushed strawberry fruit with a precise finish that the property never used to be able to offer. This is a lovely Margaux that should drink well for 20 years.

Grapes: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot

Flavors

Primary: Black Fruit – Blackberry, Blackcurrant, Plum, Cassis

Wine Secret Rating: 96/100

Wine Secret Comment: Pronounced and juicy black cherry and black currant fruit notes, a stylish and sensual Margaux style wine lovers would enjoy. Not too powerful, with a medium to full body with integrated tannins and long finish. Current in its best years, and can still drink until 2030. Best paired with red meat like beef, lamb, and deer. Great choices for western cuisines and celebrations at Christmas! Not too expensive given its fine texture and elegance.

Restaurant Price Range: HKD2800 – HKD4800 / 75cl bottle.
